SCREEN Festival | Video art route Gotico Barcelona

In a central part of the historical Gòtic quarter, a group of neighboring spaces open their doors to show videos and video installations around the theme We Built this City. Works reflecting human-city interaction, migration, urbanization and construction/destruction will illuminate and transform the historic surface of the city.

Summer Boost – Intensive Art Workshop + Exhibition

Over nine inspiring days you will be fully submerged in the artistic scene of Barcelona. With continual guidance from professional artists, you will develop an idea or concept for an art piece which will be presented in an exhibition space downtown Barcelona at the end of the workshop. You can work on your own project or on a customized assignment. Over the course of the workshop you will experience an intense and complete creative process.

What you will achieve

  • Insight into your work by both dedicating time and giving attention to your project
  • A stronger and richer vocabulary for your work
  • A completed artistic process ending in an exhibition in Barcelona (CV building)
  • Documentation of your work engulfed in new surroundings

Our approach
With the help of artists, you will decide on a project at the beginning of the workshop which allows you to work on an achievable and succesful piece. You will have a workspace in Estudio Nómada where you can work on your project in your own pace. Daily feedback will be given on your progress by our artists and your fellow students. Throughout the workshop you will be participating in inspiring activities outside the studio to help keep the mind in motion.

For who
The workshop is suited for people that have some experience in working creatively, such as art teachers, artists, designers or craftsmen.

Guiding artists
Iris Tonies lives and works in Barcelona where she started Estudio Nómada in 2007. She makes voluminous, flowing, undulating sculptures which have been exhibited in various museums and exhibitions in Barcelona, San Francisco and various locations in the Netherlands. More information.

Andre Pielage is a visual artists based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. He is working on a consistent body of work mainly consisting of installations. By repetition and a delicate handling of the materials his work takes shape which allows physical and mental space to fuse. Pielage is trained as a teacher in painting and visual arts.

Communication & Presentation training for artists in Barcelona

An intensive midweek organized by ‘The Space’ & Estudio Nómada, two collaborating creative organizations in Barcelona. The ultimate way to improve the communication about your art and to increase efficiency in approaching the art market. The training is designed for emerging or mid-career artists that seek to make the next step in their career.

Promote your art
You will develop your professional expertise, critical thinking skills and knowledge of the commercial art system. In ‘The Space’ you will have 24 hours access to a studio where every waking minute will be dedicated to improve your presentation as an artist in the fullest sense:

  • improve visual & textual presentation of your work (written and spoken)
  • learn practical tools to feel more confident in your personal presentation
  • get insight in the way galleries work and how to target/approach the right gallery for your art
  • critically review your portfolio (reselecting, titles, descriptions)
  • master legal issues, production processes and distribution of work, create and manage a client list, knowledge of how to conduct negotiations with gallerists, agents and dealers

Graduated communication advisor and linguist. For over 10 years he has been working as a journalist and writer. He is currently the owner of Estudio Nómada, an independent art school in Barcelona.
