Iris Tonies – artes visuales

Iris (1975) teaches our students in the artistic process and the making of art. After graduating form Art school in Utrecht she took off to Barcelona with her sailing-ship. Her nomadic lifestyle has it’s influences on the way she works and connects with other artists: “While travelling contacts can often be volatile. On the other hand as a traveller you are more dependent on these contacts which easily lead to temporary cooperation.” The dynamics between connecting travellers is what Estudio Nómada is based on. “It’s great to be part of a ‘hostel’ where artists gather, shape their images and move on again.”

Arnout Krediet – escritor y periodista

Arnout (1977) is writer/journalist and helps our students to put their art into words. At Utrecht University he graduated in communication and literature. Since 2007 he works as a freelance writer and journalist. Meanwhile, he graduated as a captain and refurbished an old sailing ketch on which he now lives in Barcelona. “The concept of living on a ship and to be able to move whenever I feel like it appeals to me. The sea literally and figuratively always keeps me in motion.” About Estudio Nómada: “Through our studio we were able to set foot in the artistic scene of Barcelona. I am inspired to be part of a network where young artists flourish individually ánd together.”

U.B. Morgan – Proyectos 3D

I’m a sculptor from many places but essentially California. I have lived and worked in Barcelona since 2006. My work has always used a playfulness in order to convey a deeper message. I enjoy pushing the limits of my materials and deceiving my audience regarding weight and texture.

In Estudio Nómada I guide students during sculpting projects focussing on use and transformation of materials. We try to push the limits and search for new possibilities with the various materials chosen by the students.

Kirsten Campbell – (Criticas)

Building up materials in repetitive patterns with lines and emphasizing opposing dualities which occur naturally in nature and throughout the animal & human condition, I find tensions in my art that continues to excite my practice. The process of making art is equally important to the actual finished piece, inclusive of concept, materials and construction. I draw from memories, current experiences and the emotions that are connected to these events to prompt work.

I have been working as an artist since I graduated MICA in 1998. Following my work to New York City in 1999, I graduated from Pratt Institute, receiving my MFA in 2002. I taught at Pratt for 10 years, from technical welding to traditional life drawing to contemporary art making. In September 2010 I moved with my family to Barcelona where I am continuing my art practice and teach in Estudio Nómada! Over the past 13 years I have been fortunate to continue a strong public showing, from Museum of the Americans, to galleries in NYC, Maryland, CT, NJ to public sculpture parks around the North East in America.

Naomi Bueno de Mesquita – Arte & Diseño

Naomi (1979) is a spatial designer. After graduating (cum laude) from the Rietveld academy in architecture she received her Masters degree at Elisava (Barcelona) in design and public space. A consequent theme in her work is the concept of borders (private/public, art/design). Having studied both in the field of art and of design her work is situated on the edge of the two disciplines. She currently works as an independent designer at Estudio Nómada. Her conceptual approach will help students develop an autonomous way of thinking and working and she can give them guidance in the design-proces.

Alfredo Canales – Castellano

Alfredo Canales is a multimedia designer in our studio who also gives Spanish classes. Please mail us if you want to know more.
